Coastwatch in Salacgriva (Latvia)
On September 16 students from class 11 of Salacgriva
Secondary School went to the beach to do the coastwatch. 500 m of the beach
were explored from school till the breakwater near the port.
The
beach lies on the territory of the North Vidzeme Biosphere reserve. The place
is easily to access. On the beach and in the sea one can see big stones. This
is a favourite place for walks and Nordic walking.
On
the beach the erosion of dunes is observed, it has happened due to the sea. On
the beach and in the water there are green and red alga making muddy spots.
There are four types of mussels in the Baltic sea in Latvia, we found 3 types,
mostly Macoma Baltica. There was not much litter on the beach, we collected
it. In the recent years the beach is rather clean and well-kept during the
great gatherings, people also have become more responsible about being on the
beach and in the dunes.
Filled BSP coastwatch questionnaire
I love that you keep doing this. Estonian schools are doing the coastwatch too! :)
