We are inviting you to join the Baltic Sea Project's webinar: "Air quality, lichen, climate change and citizen science" on 08. February 15-16.30 pm CET . We are delighted and excited to offer this experience to more than 180 member schools of UNESCO ASPnet around the Baltic Sea. Air pollution is one of the world’s largest health and environmental problems. Globally, death rates from air pollution have been falling which has mainly been the result of progress on tackling indoor pollution but still a lot can be done to prevent outdoor pollution. The webinar is part of the Baltic Sea Project’s air quality month and is designed to give participants some background information on the global air quality problem; to provide some examples about citizen science projects; to share concrete methods to motivate action connected to the Sustainable Development Goals related to air quality; to ask schools to join lichen BioBlitz and to teach how to use the iNaturalist application;

  The world’s population is expected to increase by 2 billion people in the next 30 years, from 7.7 billion today to 9.7 billion in 2050. By this time, global solid waste (“trash”) is expected to increase from 2.01 billion tons to 3.40 billion tons per year. If we continue to live the way we do now, the equivalent of almost three planets would be needed to provide the natural resources. Trash clogs our oceans, fills our streets and litters huge areas of the planet. Waste and overconsumption contribute to the climate crisis and link to many other sustainable development issues. We, as individuals and societies, need to live more sustainably. By taking informed decisions and responsible actions for environmental integrity, economic viability and a just society, and advocating for governments, corporations and non-governmental organizations to change too - we can do it. What we do has implications not just for our own lives but the lives of everyone else on our shared planet, today and in

For the spring term Unesco BSP had plans to organize International Water Day events, Coordinators´meeting in Tallinn in April, SciCruise Åbo/Stockholm, a visit to Ministry of Environment etc. Everything was cancelled. In the middle of March started home schooling time which continues, who knows  how long.  The most remarkable event concerning the BSP was the leap to online meetings. It was frustrating to cancel tickets to Tallinn where the coordinators´meeting was supposed to be organized. But we met instead via Teams on 3.-4. April. I still remember how exciting it was before start and how big was the relief after the successful meeting. It showed the new way of communication and it will stay, partly I hope. These virtual meetings will not replace face to face meetings which are necessary for good connections and collabor
